Wine Walk Makes The News!

La Verne Daily recently featured the beloved Sip of La Verne Wine Walk, now in its 13th year. The article captures what makes this Old Town tradition so special, from local business participation and food pairings to live music and community spirit.

Old Town Wine Walk Makes Donation To La Verne Historical Society

With wine glasses in hand and downtown sidewalks packed with visitors, this year’s Taste of La Verne Wine Walk drew a sold-out crowd—and raised money for a local nonprofit in the process.

The event, sponsored by the Old Town La Verne Business Association, sold all 1,000 tickets, organizers said. Sherry Best, president of the La Verne Historical Society, said the partnership marked the nonprofit's first time helping register attendees at the Wine Walk.

Because the organization relies on donations and membership dues to fund its programs and preservation work, Best said partnering with the Old Town Association will help support projects ranging from maintaining its 1938 International truck to participating in community events such as Trunk or Treat, the Fourth of July parade and Eggcellent Adventure.

“Our next project is producing bound copies of Evelyn Hollinger’s book, ‘La Verne: The History of the People Who Made a Difference,’” Best said.

“It was one of the best,” said Marianne Stark, a member of the Old Town Association and owner of MK Stark Accounting in La Verne. She credited the weather, atmosphere and sense of camaraderie downtown. “Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time.”

During a May 19 presentation at Mainiero Square, Old Town Association President Craig Walters presented a $3,000 check to La Verne Historical Society President Sherry Best and Vice President Kathy Kalousek.

Walters said the Wine Walk has donated $52,000 to local nonprofits over its 13-year history, including the K9 Foundation, Meals on Wheels, La Verne Fire Fighters CERT program, David & Margaret Home, Rotary Club, La Verne Little League, the Youth & Family Action Committee, and Habitat for Humanity.

“Old Town La Verne is filled with owner-operated businesses that have a connection to our community,” Walters said. “It’s more than a business transaction, and as a token of gratitude, we want to help other groups that also serve our community.”

More Old Town events are in the works, including a beer walk this fall.
